The Northstar Rottweiler Club (NRC) was formed in 1986 by a small group of Rottweiler owners, and has since grown into a club of well over 100 hundred voting members. The NRC is a place for Rottweiler lovers to share ideas, friendships and their beloved dogs!

The NRC is a "code of ethics" club and all prospective members are required to sign a copy of the code as part of their application for membership. The code of ethics helps the club to maintain integrity and sets parameters for acceptable behavior by club members.

The NRC is currently licensed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to put on an annual Rottweiler specialty. In addition to the specialty, the NRC holds at least one fun match and one sanction match per calendar year. But that's just one facet of the Northstar Rottweiler Club. We are most proud of our efforts to educate the public about the Rottweiler breed and the responsibility of dog ownership, in general.

Our club has a booth every year at the Pet Expo in Minneapolis, where we bring our dogs and answer questions about our breed and what it takes to own a Rottweiler. We also do an annual obedience demonstration at the Minnesota State Fair. Club members also attend smaller public education events at pet supply stores and animal shelters. And several of our individual members go to schools and give presentations or are involved in "Therapy Dog" work at hospitals and nursing homes.

The NRC holds general meetings every other month, which provide an opportunity for club members to voice their opinions and vote on pertinent issues. Each meeting also includes a special speaker or activity for all members to enjoy. It is also an excellent opportunity for members to get to know one another and socialize their dogs. Newcomers can learn a lot about our breed and our sport, from long time Rottweiler owners and exhibitors.

The club publishes an information packed newsletter, six times per year. It's a great way to keep the membership up to date with all the club business and activities; it also affords club members an opportunity to share the triumphs they've had with their dogs with other club members. In addition, there are always informative articles relating to Rottweilers, showing dogs, responsible ownership, dog sports, etc.

The NRC has grown into a great club, with a strong membership and fun activities. Our two best attended events are our annual awards banquet in January, where we have an opportunity to recognize the achievements of members and their dogs. And in July, we have our annual picnic and AKC Sanction Match. It's a great time to relax, socialize and have fun with our dogs.

There are many areas of Interest offered by the NRC, whether you own a show dog or a beloved, companion pet. The central interest we all share is that we love our dogs and want the public to know what a wonderful breed the Rottweiler truly is!
